Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 21, 2026

We built GitFolio AI to turn your GitHub profile into a portfolio — not to trade in your personal data. This policy explains, in plain English, exactly what we collect, why we collect it, and how you stay in control.

The short version: We only collect what we need to build and improve your portfolio. We never sell your data. You can export or delete your account and everything tied to it at any time. The sections below fill in the details.

1. Who we are

GitFolio AI ("GitFolio," "we," "us," or "our") is a service that generates developer portfolios and resumes from public GitHub data. This policy covers our website, app, and blog. When we say "you," we mean anyone who visits or creates an account with us.

2. Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run the service, and nothing more:

  • Account information — your name, email address, and username when you sign up. If you sign in with GitHub or Google, we receive basic profile details from them (like your public profile and email) so we can create your account.
  • GitHub data — public information from your GitHub profile, such as repositories, languages, stars, and contribution activity, which we use to build your portfolio.
  • Content you create — the portfolios, resumes, and settings you generate and save on the platform.
  • Usage data — which pages you visit and features you use, so we can understand what is working and what needs improvement.
  • Device & log data — your IP address, browser type, device information, and similar technical details that are automatically recorded when you use any website.

We do not ask for or intentionally store sensitive information such as payment card numbers, government IDs, or private (non-public) repository contents.

3. How we use your information

We use the information above to:

  • Create, display, and continually improve your portfolio and resume.
  • Run, maintain, and secure your account and the GitFolio service.
  • Respond to your questions and provide support.
  • Send you product updates or newsletters only if you opt in — and you can unsubscribe from any email with a single click.
  • Detect, prevent, and investigate abuse, fraud, or security issues.

We will never use your data for a new, unexpected purpose without telling you first.

4. Cookies & tracking

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies, grouped by purpose:

  • Essential — to keep you signed in and remember your preferences (like light or dark mode). The service will not work properly without these.
  • Analytics — to measure traffic and understand how the product is used, in aggregate.
  • Advertising — set by our ad partners, as described in the next section.

You can block or delete cookies at any time through your browser settings.

5. Advertising

Some pages may display ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to show ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. You can turn off personalized advertising at any time through Google Ads Settings, or learn more at Google's advertising page.

6. Third-party services

To run GitFolio, we rely on a few trusted providers who process data on our behalf:

  • GitHub & Google — for optional social sign-in.
  • GitHub — as the source of the public profile data we build your portfolio from.
  • Analytics providers — to measure performance and reliability.
  • Google AdSense — to serve ads.

Each of these has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data.

7. How we share your information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We only share it in these limited situations:

  • With the service providers listed above, so they can perform their function.
  • When you choose to make a portfolio public — that content becomes visible to anyone with the link, which is the whole point of a shareable portfolio.
  • For legal reasons — if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users and the service.

8. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. When you delete your account, we remove your personal data and generated content, except for anything we are legally required to keep or that remains in routine backups for a limited period.

9. How we protect your data

We use industry-standard measures — including encryption in transit and access controls — to protect your information. No online service can promise perfect security, but we work hard to keep your data safe and to respond quickly if anything goes wrong.

10. Your rights & choices

You are always in control of your data. At any time you can:

  • Access and update your information from your account settings.
  • Export the portfolios and resumes you have created.
  • Delete your account and the data associated with it.
  • Opt out of marketing emails and personalized ads.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA — for example, the right to object to certain processing or to request a copy of your data. To exercise any of these rights, just contact us.

11. International users

GitFolio is operated online and may process and store your information on servers located in other countries. Wherever your data is handled, this policy applies and we take steps to protect it.

12. Children's privacy

GitFolio is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as our product and the law evolve. When we make a meaningful change, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and — for significant changes — let you know within the app or by email.

14. Contact us
